The UV Quartz SUPRASIL Semi-Micro Cells are widely used in routine UV/Vis analysis. They have the same outside dimensions as Macro cells, but their cell walls have been thickened slightly, limiting the interior sample chamber width to 4 mm with a base thickness of 3.2 mm. Each cell has two clear windows. Semi-Micro cells have either a lid or a stopper. While the outside dimensions of Semi-Micro cells with Stoppers differ slightly from those with Lids, the path length and volume are not affected. UV Quartz SUPRASIL is a quartz of the highest purity and homogeneity. An empty UV Quartz SUPRASIL cell gives a transmission of more that 80% over a spectral range of 200 - 2,500 nm. These cells are identified by a blue PerkinElmer logo.

Sealed liquid cells have a corrosion-resistant construction, making them ideal for highly volatile samples. Each cell has a precise path length which is calibrated using the interference pattern generated by an empty cell in the beam of a spectrometer. These cells are ideal for quantitative analysis where you require an accurate reproducible cell thickness. They use a lead spacer which is amalgamated to the window material. The resultant bond forms a good leak-free seal which is effective in preventing evaporation and loss of sample. You can fill or empty liquid samples easily. The sealed liquid cell is an integral unit and cannot be disassembled. Hellma(R) absorption cuvettes, standard cells, Macro with PTFE stoppers (spectral range 200-2,500 nm, pathlength 10 mm, chamber volume 3,500 muL) are available in high-performance Suprasil quartz material. The highest level of sensitivity in the measurement can be achieved by suitably selecting the cell for a specific application such that it exhibits high transmission in the spectral range of interest. The maximum of 80-90% transmission shown by empty Suprasil quartz cell is caused by the reflection loss at the four glass/air boundaries. When filled with common solvents, the cell will exhibit significantly higher maximum transmissions.
